Inside the Devland Fellowship Program

The Devland Fellowship Program

The Devland Fellowship Program is a transformative journey designed to mold the future leaders of entrepreneurship and finance. This program, which goes far beyond what traditional internships offer, is specifically crafted for undergraduate and graduate students in fields like advanced science, engineering, entrepreneurial finance, and MBA studies. By diving deep into the complex world of venture capital, participants gain critical tools and insights, setting them on a path toward long-term success.

Devland is widely recognized for its role as a startup studio and investment firm, but our dedication to fostering talent in finance and entrepreneurship has been central to our mission since 2016. Over the years, the program has garnered significant support from top finance professors and academic institutions, further amplifying its impact in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.

Experiential Learning and Mission-Driven Leadership

The Devland Fellowship Program offers a distinctive blend of hands-on learning and strategic mentorship, designed to prepare fellows for the urgent challenges facing the venture capital and entrepreneurial worlds. Unlike traditional programs, Devland places a strong emphasis on opportunities in climate and deep tech—areas that often carry significant scientific risk but are crucial to the health of our planet and the future of society. Throughout the program, fellows are immersed in real-world projects that require them to assess and support businesses with the potential to drive transformative change. This focus gives participants a unique lens through which to evaluate ventures, honing their ability to identify and nurture mission-critical innovations.

The program’s flexible structure allows fellows to explore areas that align with their passions while also tackling new challenges that push them beyond their comfort zones. With guidance from experienced industry leaders, fellows develop their strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, equipping them to address the complex issues that define climate and deep tech sectors.

As the fellowship concludes, fellows synthesize their experiences and present an Investment Thesis, offering strategic recommendations on where Devland should focus its efforts next. This final project reflects their deep understanding of high-impact industries and showcases their potential to influence the future of innovation and sustainability.

Building a Collaborative Community

The Devland program is more than just a fellowship; it’s a vibrant community where innovation and collaboration thrive. Regular workshops, seminars, and networking events foster a culture of idea exchange and collective problem-solving. Program alumni come from prestigious institutions like UC Berkeley, Northeastern University, Stanford, Rice, University of Houston, and University of Miami, gaining access to cutting-edge resources and networks we have cultivated across innovation-focused geographies in the U.S. By the end of the term, participants not only gain deep insights into venture capital and startup building but also contribute to shaping the future of entrepreneurship and investment. Many go on to accept the challenge of startup building and reflect on their experience at Devland.

Recent fellows have shared positive experiences about their time at Devland:

"My internship at Devland Innovation has given me the freedom to explore the startup landscape, where I have chosen to focus on sustainable and emerging water technologies. The Devland team, consisting of inspiring, passionately driven, and incredibly knowledgeable individuals, has greatly enriched my experience." —Ragnild Tiller, UC Berkeley (via Innovation Norway)

"As an intern at Devland, I have had the opportunity to pursue my interest in Avatar Robotics and apply it to investment research. We have focused on building relationships with founders, researchers, and industry leaders, and attended many insightful events. It has been intensive and out of my comfort zone, but also incredibly rewarding and fun. I'm truly grateful for the guidance of Miles and Glenn, who shared their expertise and pushed me to grow." —Thea Gathe, UC Berkeley (via Innovation Norway)
